| Enc. Britannica - A series of astronomical eclipses was reported in the chronology of Ptolemy's list of kings, which gives the Babylonian series of eclipses from 747 BC to 539 BC. ... It is known from both Babylonian and Greek history that at least from the time of King Nabonassar (whose reign began in 747 BC), a dated canon of astronomical observations was preserved at Babylon. Reference to the list of lunar eclipses would enable the Babylonian astronomers to determine accurately the intervals between such eclipses and must have facilitated the discovery of the 18-year cycle (more exactly the cycle of 6,585 1/3 days that the 10th-century Greek lexicographer Suidas named the saros). This cycle is attested in Babylonian astronomy at a fairly early period. |

In this part of our chronology, we are approaching the time of King Hezekiah of Judah. It was during his reign that God "brought the shadow ten degrees backward, by which it had gone down in the dial of Ahaz" - 2 Kings 20.11. There are several ways for measuring time. 1. Today we measure 365.2425 days in the SOLAR year. 2. A prophetic "time" is 360.0 days in the year. I call this the SACRED year. 3. The ancients measured by the LUNAR year of 354 days in the year. The true measure is 354.3672 days per LUNAR year. For the next 30 years of our chronology, 741 BC through to 711 BC, I have structured the calendar by way of comparison into SOLAR, SACRED, and LUNAR year comparative time frames. I believe that these time measures will show a clearer understanding of what is meant by the scriptural reference of 2 Kings 20.11 referred to above. |

Enc. Britannica - ? A Solar Eclipse in China ? "The Shih ching (Classic of Poetry) contains a lamentation occasioned by an eclipse of the Moon followed by an eclipse of the Sun. ... The solar eclipse is said to have occurred on the day hsin-mao (the 28th day of the sexagenary cycle), which was the first day of the 10th lunar month. A date of 776 BC was formerly adopted for such an event, but modern computations show that no solar eclipse in that year was visible in China. A revised date of 735 BC has been proposed. ... Throughout the subsequent thousand years or so, lunar eclipses were hardly ever reported in China - in marked contrast to solar obscurations, which were systematically observed." |

TOTAL Solar Eclipse 14 March 730 BC in the constellation of Pisces NOTE: From here on, for the next 15-16 years as we approach the reign of King Hezekiah in Judah, there is a 100 year difference between solar year and lunar year reckonings since Adam. We read in the Bible Scriptures of an event that took place about 715 BC .... 2 Kings 8-11: "And Hezekiah said unto Isaiah, What shall be THE SIGN that the Lord will heal me, and that I shall go up into the house of the Lord the third day? And Isaiah said, This sign shalt thou have of the Lord, that the Lord will do the thing that he hath spoken: shall the shadow go forward ten degrees, or go back ten degrees? And Isaiah the prophet cried unto the Lord: and he brought the shadow ten degrees backward, by which it had gone down in the dial of Ahaz." Could there have been a change from LUNAR to SOLAR calendar reckoning during King Hezekiah's reign? If we draw a 360 degree circle as in a sundial - to represent a time period of 3600 years, then 10/360 degrees of 3600 years = 100 years which is the difference between the lunar and solar reckonings for the year 3271 AM solar, or 3371 lunar. We may conclude that one degree of this 3600 year sundial = ten years, and ten degrees of this 3600 year sundial = 100 years. |

| FALL OF SAMARIA - Israel taken captive to Assyria during the year of 6th Hezekiah and 9th Hoshea. |
The year 3277 AM is 365 years since SAUL became the first King of Israel in 2912 AM. If the calendar used at the time of King Ahaz of Judah was based on a 365 solar day y ear, then over a period of 365 years, an 88.5125 days adjustment would have been made to cater for the 0.2425 days short per year. The old lunar and anti-diluvian calendars used to make adjustments of 11-day periods at regular intervals. As the required adjustment over a period of 365 years totals a number of days which is divisible by 11 (i.e. 88.5125 days), then maybe at the end of Ahaz reign, (0.2425 x 360 years = 87.3 (say 88) days, or during Hezekiah's reign, it was time to make one such calendar adjustment. |

The Ch'un-ch'iu ('Spring and Autumn Annals'), a chronicle covering the period from 722 BC to 481 BC, notes the occurrence of 36 solar eclipses during this interval. This is the earliest surviving series of eclipse observations from any part of the world. The records give the date of each event in the following form: year of the ruler, lunar month, and day of the 60-day cycle. Three of the eclipses (occurring 709 BC, 601 BC, and 549 BC) were described as total. As many as 32 of the eclipses cited in the Ch'un-ch'iu can be identified by modern calculations." |

It will be seen below, when we approach the 3300 AM solar years, that this SIGN given to Hezekiah during this 3330th SACRED year, "that the Lord will heal me, and that I shall go up into the house of the Lord the third day?" points to the end of Hezekiah's reign 29-year reign which falls on the 66th Jubilee Year from Adam, and the 17th Jubilee Year from the Exodus of Israel from Egypt. 3330 SACRED years = 666 x 5 This study seems to indicate that God often talks to man mid-way between lunar and solar time-periods, that time being regarded as "sacred". |
NOTE: 2 Kings 19.29 - "And this shall be A SIGN unto thee, YE SHALL EAT THIS YEAR SUCH THINGS AS GROW OF THEMSELVES, and in the second year that which springeth of the same; and in the third year sow, ye, and reap, and plant vineyards, and eat the fruits thereof. This part of the scriptures refers to the time period where the law requires the land to be rested, that is, at the time of Jubilee. In the first chapter of the first book of the Bible - Genesis - God says that the sun and the moon were given as SIGNS, and it is through the movement of the sun and moon that we measure time. If we measure Jubilee as 50 years, then the next Jubilee is not due till 3300 AM solar. If we measure Jubilee as 49 years, then 3283 AM solar divides evenly by 49 years x 67 times. So this year, 3283 AM solar, would be a Jubilee year. Because Hezekiah was healed and lived on another seventeen years till 3300 AM solar years, I believe that the Jubilee year is meant to be a 50-year count. |
| As an example let's consider the time we celebrate at Christmas: | ||
| 3284 AM solar | 716 BC | Year 13 of King Hezekiah of Judah |
| 3285 AM solar | 715 BC | Year 14 of King Hezekiah of Judah |
Sennachareb of Assyria took "the fenced cities" of Judah during 715 BC. Consider another thought in relation to 2 Kings 20 when Hezekiah was sick and he asked God for a sign that God would heal him. Just as a stone is moved around stonehenge every 300 years to mark the change of a calendar cycle, so too the shadow on Hezekiah's sundial may have moved over a period of time since the time of Ahaz as king in Judah. Isaiah, being a prophet and a learned man, would be aware of God's sacred time cycles, and could have tricked Hezekiah into believing that the shadow actually moved backwards at that instant. Hezekiah, however, was quite a learned man himself - he was a clever engineer as evidenced by his works which still exist and are functional in Israel today - so an intelligent man such as he would not have been tricked by Isaiah the prophet. Through the discussions between King Hezekiah and the prophet Isaiah, Hezekiah would have known in advance, through faith, that he had God on his side, and that God would rescue him and his people from the threat of the Assyrians at this time, even though Sennachareb of Assyria had taken the fenced cities of Judah. We shall see below that God did come to the aid of Hezekiah. The SIGN of rescue and deliverance to Hezekiah for himself and his people was an astronomical sign through time measurement. Isaiah chapter 38 says, "I (God) will deliver thee and this city out of the hand of the King of Assyria: and I will defend this city." |

Sunspot Cycle No. 296 = 296 x 11.1 = 3285.6 years End fifth Sabbatic Week of Jubilee 66/17 - No sow, no reap |
Another possibility to consider: If the ancient peoples counted the solar year as 364 days, say because a 364 day year is divisible by 7 days per week, then 1,200,000 days divided by 364 days per year would result in the year 3296.7 years. The true solar reckoning is 3285.4 years. The different is 11.3 years. |
| 3286 AM solar | 714 BC | Year 15 of King Hezekiah of Judah |
GOD'S ANGEL SMITES THE CAMP OF THE ASSYRIANS 2 Kings 20.8-12 - "And Hezekiah said unto Isaiah, What shall be the sign that the Lord will heal me, and that I shall go up into the house of the Lord the third day? And Isaiah said, This sign shalt thou have of the Lord, that the Lord will do the thing that he hath spoken: And Hezekiah answered, It is a light thing for the shadow to go down ten degrees: nay, but let the shadow return backward ten degrees. And Isaiah the prophet cried unto the Lord: and he brought the shadow ten degrees backward, by which it had gone down in the dial of Ahaz." Was there a 100-year calendar date change at this time from lunar to solar reckoning or vice versa? 100 years is ten degrees of the 3600 year 360 degree circular sundial. Or, it may have been from biblical description that Hezekiah's sundial was spread over a series of "steps" or maybe stairs, say alongside a wall. The previous wicked kings of Judah had deviated from God's Sabbatic Laws and succombed to the ways of the other nations about them. Hezekiah was a good king, and for this God rewarded him an extended lifetime (another 14 years) during which time he restored the temple and the laws of God in Jerusalem, and accomplished engineering feats to improve the well-being and economy of the nation. Hezekiah's tunnel still stands, and is still functional, under Jerusalem today. |
Under the above discoveries, it seems fitting, that there were two: Umbral Lunar Eclipses on 30 April and 24 October 714 BC and the year closed with the end of METONIC CYCLE NO. 173 = 3286.9 years |
| 3287 AM solar | 713 BC | Year 16 of King Hezekiah of Judah |
From this time onwards, the 100-year time difference between lunar and solar reckonings is already growing wider. Over the period of the last 77 years, 11 days per would have been added to the lunar year to make it approximately equivalent to the solar year. Therefore, over 77 years, 77 x 11 = 847 days would have been added to the lunar calendar. The difference between the lunar/solar 77 year period is 837.398 days. So over the 77 years, an excess of 9.602 days was added. The calendar needs further adjustment, say by deducting 10 days. Again, we see 10 days as 10 degrees of a 360 day or degree circle. One may well ask, is the time cycle here similar to the times of Joshua (somewhere around 2488 AM or 1512 BC in this chronology) just after the Exodus of Israel from Egypt, when "the sun stood still"? |
| All things considered in this chronological study, it seems apparent that there was some calendar adjustment or change made during the reign of King Hezekiah of Judah, though the exact nature of the change made is not quite clear. From the point of view of bible chronology, it is an invaluable record for accurate alignment of time-end prophetic time scales which unfold as history progresses. |

This was the last year of Hezekiah's reign in Judah, and worth noting that it was the 66th Jubilee year from Adam, and the 17th Jubilee year from the Exodus of Israel from Egypt. Hezekiah saw a most sacred period as far as bible prophecy is concerned - 3330 sacred years (666 x 5) of 360-day years or "times". Let's recap events: 2 Kings 8-11: "And Hezekiah said unto Isaiah, What shall be THE SIGN that the Lord will heal me, and that I shall go up into the house of the Lord the third day? And Isaiah said, This sign shalt thou have of the Lord, that the Lord will do the thing that he hath spoken: shall the shadow go forward ten degrees, or go back ten degrees? And Isaiah the prophet cried unto the Lord: and he brought the shadow ten degrees backward, by which it had gone down in the dial of Ahaz." And so, Hezekiah in death, does actually "go up into the house of the Lord the third day" - that third day (year) of renewal which is the next day (year) after the 66th Jubilee year, when King Manasseh has charge of carrying on the benefits of the fine achievements for the nation that Hezekiah achieved in bringing the nation back to God's Law ... 2 Kings 19.29 - "And this shall be A SIGN unto thee, ye shall eat this year such things as grow of themselves, and in the second year that which springeth of the same; AND IN THE THIRD YEAR SOW, YE, AND REAP, AND PLANT VINEYARDS, AND EAT THE FRUITS THEREOF. Umbral LUNAR eclipses on 16th January and 12th July 699 BC. |
NOTE: The count of reigns of the Kings of Israel and Judah has been within the custom of counting the first year of reign as one year, even if only say, one or a few months only of a year, has been served by the King before the official civil or sacred year end. therefore the last year of the reign of a previous King is the first year of the succeeding King's reign. In the chronology of years which follow below, the count of the Kings' reigns has been adjusted by five or six years to align this chronology with the official historian's date for the FALL OF JERUSALEM in 3413 AM (587 BC). It is pleasing to note that after work on a history of some 3300 years, that the chronology is only five or six years out of alignment with official history which can be proven by scientific and archaeological fact. So I have assumed for the last few remaining Kings of Judah, their reigns are not calculated in the same way as above, but that each King has fulfilled a full year of his reign before the accession of the next King, who in turn, completes a full year for his first regnal year. This has enabled the absolute correlation with the official historic date of the Fall of Jerusalem. The remaining kings of Judah are Manasseh (current king), Amon, Josiah, Jehoahaz, Eliakim/Jehoiakim, Jehoiachin and Zedekiah - the last king of Judah recorded in the Bible until the advent of Jesus Christ. |
