In the introductory study of this chapter we recognised that the temple or tabernacle is the place where God is, and where He communicates with man within the temple of the body. The physical building structure of a temple can be an adjunct to the place where man is at the time. Several names or titles were given to the tabernacle in the Old Testament.
"According to all that I shew thee, after the pattern of the tabernacle, and the pattern of all the instruments thereof, even so shall ye make it." |
"And on the day that the tabernacle was reared up the cloud covered the tabernacle, namely, the tent of the testimony: and at even there was upon the tabernacle as it were the appearance of fire, until the morning." "And Moses laid up the rods before the Lord in the tabernacle of witness." "And thy brethren also of the tribe of Levi, the tribe of thy father, bring thou with thee, that they may be joined unto thee, and minister unto thee: but thou and thy sons with thee shall minister before the tabernacle of witness." |
"Then rose up Zerubbabel the son of Shealtiel, and Jeshua the son of Jozadak, and began to build the house of God which is at Jerusalem: and with them were the prophets of God helping them." "Then they brought the golden vessels that were taken out of the temple of the house of God which was at Jerusalem; and the king (Belshazzar the king of Babylon), and his princes, his wives, and his concubines, drank in them." |
"Then a cloud covered the tent of the congregation, and the glory of the Lord filled the tabernacle. and Moses was not able to enter into the tent of the congregation, because the cloud abode thereon, and the glory of the Lord filled the tabernacle." |
The Book of Exodus in the Bible lists seven things that God requires in the building of God's House, whether that temple be a physical structure, or the temple within man himself.
"And Moses called Bezaleel and Aholiab, and every wise hearted man, in whose heart the Lord had put wisdom, even every one whose heart stirred him up to come unto the work to do it: ..." |
"And the Lord spake unto Moses, saying, Speak unto the children of Israel, that they bring me an offering: of every man that giveth it willingly with his heart ye shall take my offering." |
"And they received of Moses all the offering, which the children of Israel had brought for the work of the service of the sanctuary, to make it withall. And they brought yet unto him free offerings every morning. |
"Then wrought Bezaleel and Aholiab, and every wise hearted man, in whom the Lord put wisdom and understanding to know how to work all manner of work for the service of the sanctuary, according to all that the Lord had commanded. And Moses called Bezaleel and Aholiab, and every wise hearted man, in whose heart the Lord had put wisdom, even every one whose heart stirred him up to come unto the work to do it: And they received of Moses all the offering, which the children of Israel had brought for the work of the service of the sanctuary, to make it withal. And they brought yet unto him free offerings every morning." |
"And Moses said unto the children of Israel, See, the Lord hath called by name Bezaleel the son of Uri, the son of Hur, of the tribe of Judah; And he hath filled him with the spirit of God, in wisdom, in understanding, and in knowledge, and in all manner of workmanship; ... and ... of the tribe of Dan. Them hath he filled with wisdom of heart, to work all manner of work ... work." |
"And look that thou make them after their pattern, which was showed thee in the mount." "And thou shalt rear up the tabernacle according to the fashion thereof which was showed thee in the mount." "Hollow with boards shalt thou make it: as it was showed thee in the mount, so shall they make it." |
"Speak unto the children of Israel, that they bring me an offering: of every man that giveth it willingly with his heart ye shall take my offering." |
The number seven denotes spiritual perfection and is significant in measuring the times and seasons of divine prophecies, and prophecy is God communicating with man's past, present and future fulfilment of events, depending upon what period of time we are looking at those prophecies. Psalm 12.6 reads:
| "The words of the Lord (Jehovah) are pure words; as silver tried in a furnace of earth, purified seven times." |
The words used by man are subject to corruption and disintegration; so in interpreting the Revelation of God's Word, we need to look at our interpretations of words pertaining to earth language, so that they are "perfectly purified as silver is purified in a furnace".
