MEASURE THE TEMPLE

INTRODUCTION

PREMISE - THE TABERNACLE CUBIT

An extensive description of the tabernacle's structure, curtains, furniture and utensils is given in the second book of the Bible, Exodus. The length of the tabernacle can be calculated easily. The structure consisted of assembled boards which could be dismantled and carried from place to place as God's people sojourned after their Exodus from Egypt to their new land promised by God. Curtains, also assembled by lengths, provided a covering for the boards.

God gave Moses the architectural instructions as to the size of boards and the materials to be used. The biblical record in the book of Exodus, however, gives measurements based on the cubit as a unit of measure. Here is our first problem to be solved. How long was the cubit? We need to know the size of this cubit measurement converted to the unit of measurement we use today. Then we can get a realistic appreciation of size in relation to our own building structures, and to ascertain where the tabernacle rooms were divided within the tabernacle itself.

During my research I found several ancient cubit sizes converted to the British inch equivalent.

1 sacred cubit = 25.0266 British inches

1 Jewish cubit = 21.0 inches

1 royal cubit = 20.64 inches

1 Sumerian cubit = 19.8 inches

1 great cubit = 18.14 inches

There is a difference of 6.8866 inches between the longest and shortest of these measurements. Our second problem? Which size cubit do we use? I now come to my first premise or assumption. I am going to use a measurement of 22 British inches to the cubit in measuring the tabernacle of Moses, and name it "the Tabernacle Cubit" because

The middle measurement between the longest and shortest cubit sizes above is 21.5833 inches - if we work to four decimal points we will never stop calculating, so I round it to the nearest whole number which is 22 inches; the number 22 is the product of 11 x 2. This may seem a "rough and ready" approach, but stay with me, because some interesting calculations do result from the average 22 inches to the cubit measurement.

The number 22 is most significant in the structure of the book of Revelation and alphabetic gematria as explained earlier, 22 being a product of 11.

The British inch has been in existence for longer than metric measurements, and I feel more comfortable working with British inches.

If we are going to correlate measurements of the tabernacle and the Pyramid of Cheops, then the British inch is most significant in the prophetic interpretations.

The measurement for each Tabernacle Board which was given to Moses was

1.5 cubits wide, and

10 cubits long

Let's look at comparative cubit measures using the various types of ancient cubit sizes:

Sacred Cubits = 37.5399" x 250.266"

Jewish Cubits = 31.5" x 210"

Royal Cubits = 30.96" x 20.64"

Sumerian Cubits = 29.7" x 198"

Great Cubits = 27.21" x 181.4"

Tabernacle Cubits = 33" x 220"

is the measurement size for each of the 50 boards which made up the perimeter of the tabernacle of Moses

220 = HIGH PRIEST

Hebrews 10.21 referring to Jesus Christ

220 = LAMB

Jesus, the Lamb of God

In view of the gematria being revealed above, it is certainly worth investigating further, the measurements of the tabernacle using the measurement of 22 British inches to the "Tabernacle" Cubit.
